I'm 63 With $1.5M. Can I Spend $10K a Month?

You’ve saved $1.5 million. Now comes the real test.

Can it produce $10,000 a month, or will that pace drain your portfolio?

Most retirees do not get a clear answer until it is too late.

The issue is not just how much you have. It is whether your portfolio was built to pay you, not just grow.

That difference can determine whether your money lasts decades or starts breaking down early.

Sequence of returns, taxes on withdrawals, healthcare costs, and whether the 4% rule still applies all play a role.

Fiduciary advisors created a breakdown showing what drives sustainable income and why the same $1.5M can produce very different outcomes.

If you have $1M or more invested, do not guess.

Hey Berliners!

August is here, and it arrived warm. Tuesday and Wednesday are the hot ones — 33°C and 32°C. Then it breaks: Thursday back to 26°C, Friday down to 22°C and properly pleasant. So the week front-loads the heat and hands you a cool weekend.

And here’s the thing about August: it’s the city exhaling. Gaswerk Music Days finishes today, and with it, the last of the big summer festivals. The crowds thin out, and the lakes stay warm. That’s not a loss — it’s the best three weeks of the year to actually live here.

Two things do land this week. Three circus tents go up on Tempelhofer Feld on Wednesday and stay for twelve days. And on Saturday the Britzer Garten stays open after dark and fills with fire, light and a hot-air balloon.

One thing leaves. Brancusi goes back to Paris on the 9th. This is the last week — and next weekend is the last weekend.

🎶 The Week’s Lead

🎪 Berlin Circus Festival — Tempelhofer Feld · Wed 5–16 Aug · Ticketed ⭐

Germany's biggest contemporary circus festival, twelfth edition: three tents and an outdoor stage, twenty productions over twelve days. Not animals and sequins — acrobatics fused with theatre, dance and live music, with a Catalan focus this year.

It opens Wednesday at 19:30 with "This is (not) a party", a performance party spread across the whole site, previewing the first weekend's highlights. From Thursday you can watch four shows back to back in an evening: Naiade (FR) 17:00 · N.Ormes (CA) 18:00 · Yes, Person 19:30 · Food (AT) 20:30. Plus WIP: the smallest things (CH) at 15:30 Friday and Saturday.

Nearly all of it is wordless — where it isn't, the programme flags language and age limits per show. Seating is unreserved, so come early; the site opens 90 minutes before the first show. Combi tickets get you two shows in a day for less. No dogs, and no bringing your own food or drink.

📍 Tempelhofer Damm entrance — S+U Tempelhof · €23.50 including booking fee (€18 reduced, €13 under-12; under-3s free)

📰 City News

🎭 Berlin lacht! is struggling — and it's the trains' fault
The free street-theatre festival at Washingtonplatz has posted a notice that it can't always deliver its programme: with rail services cut, fewer people reach Hauptbahnhof; hat money has collapsed; and some artists are cancelling. Daily to 23 August, the market is from 11:00 and shows 15:00–22:00 — then Potsdamer Platz, 26 Aug to 13 Sep. If you go, bring coins.
🔗 More info here

🚇 Two building sites to plan around
Northern S-Bahn: Bornholmer Straße–Schönholz is disrupted until 17 August; the S1 reroutes via Pankow, and a replacement bus serves Wollankstraße. And the U5 has track renewal between Hellersdorf and Friedrichsfelde until 20 August — replacement buses or shuttle trains depending on the section.
🔗 Live disruptions here

🏫 Three weeks of holidays left
Berlin's break runs to 22 August; the first school day is Monday the 24th. The Super-Ferien-Pass is €9 and valid through Easter 2027: one free swim a day at any Berliner Bäder pool, plus free entry to the Botanical Garden, the Naturkundemuseum, and the Zoo and Tierpark for under-16s. Add a passport photo to the Badekarte and activate it once at a pool desk before first use.

📍 Berlin Picks

🎨 Monira Al Qadiri: Hero — Berlinische Galerie · to 17 Aug · €12 (€7 reduced)
Oil as material and metaphor: a monumental mural of a tanker in black and red, a fibreglass ship's bow emerging from the wall, and eleven model tankers rolling across the floor. Al Qadiri was born in Senegal, grew up in Kuwait, and makes petroleum look like jewellery. Two weeks left — and it's air-conditioned, which matters on Tuesday.
📍 Alte Jakobstr. 124–128 — U1/U3 Hallesches Tor

🎟️ … and the same ticket gets you four more
That €12 covers the whole building: Marc Brandenburg's 20th Century Debris and Emilio Vedova's Absurd Berlin Diary '64 (both until 14 Sept), the permanent Berlin collection, and Brigitte Meier-Denninghoff's sculptures — which close Monday, 3 August. The first Wednesday of the month is €7 for everyone: Wednesday, 5 August.
🔗 What's on here

👀 Next Sunday: OBSERVE! at the Meistersaal — 9–13 Aug · Free
The first art exhibition ever staged in the Hansa Studios building — Bowie, Iggy Pop, Depeche Mode and U2 all recorded here. Four artists on perception and observation in a listed hall a few metres from where the wall ran. Opens Sunday 9 August at 12:00, then daily 12:00–18:00.

📍 Special Event of the Week

🏮 Britzer Gartennacht — Sat 8 Aug · 16:00–midnight · €38.50
One night a year the park stays open after dark and fills with light: 100+ artists across 30 spots; fire performers; aerial acrobats; illuminated trees and water; and a balloon ride are included in the ticket. The programme starts at 17:00.

Three catches: tickets are personalised and the contingent is limited; the box office on the night sells full-price €42 tickets only, so buy any concession in advance; and there is no outside food or drink – one small water bottle is fine. Under-7s go free.

⚫ Hertha open the whole season on Friday — badly depleted
The 2. Bundesliga starts three weeks before the Bundesliga, and Hertha have the curtain-raiser for the entire division: away at Bochum, Friday 7 August, 18:30.

They arrive gutted. Captain and top scorer Fabian Reese went to Wolfsburg in June despite a contract running to 2030. Sport Bild reports Hertha pushed the sale through because the fee was 'survival-critical'. Teenager Kennet Eichhorn had already gone. One external signing so far: Oluwaseun Adewumi, on loan from Burnley. Stefan Leitl's line: "It's definitely time something happens."

Home opener:

🥘 Théodor Brasserie — Charlottenburg
The Mommsen-Eck was a West Berlin institution for over a century – the "Haus der 100 Biere" – until it closed in 2023. Since May it's been Théodor: a French brasserie from Yoram Roth and the Berlin Hospitality Group, deliberately generous rather than minimal.

Roasted bone marrow with sauce vierge, Dover sole meunière, blanquette de veau, glazed lamb shank, moules frites, escargots. Mains are €24–42, with a wine list that leans hard into France and ten spritzers at the bar. About 120 seats are inside and another 120 on the terrace – the reason to go this week.

Open daily 11:30–23:00; kitchen until 22:00. Separate lunch and dinner menus. Book ahead.
