✍️ From the Editor

Hey Berliners!

This is a week to check before you travel. At five on Monday morning the route through Dreieck Funkturm changes, and it is not expected back until summer 2027. The A100 shuts overnight for four nights, the western Ringbahn is closed today, and the Berlin–Hannover works have begun.

Then the city gets brighter. Food Week starts tomorrow, two film festivals open midweek, and on Friday evening the Festival of Lights switches on for ten nights.

The five practical things are boxed below. Everything else is the fun part.

— Dr. Yassir A. Shuaib

🚦 Five Things to Know This Week

1 · The route through Dreieck Funkturm changes at 05:00 Monday; the A115 connector goes, traffic reroutes via Alte Jafféstraße, and it won't be back until summer 2027. 👉 More info here

2 · Separately, the A100 closes overnight Monday to Thursday, 21:00–05:00, between Hohenzollerndamm and Heckerdamm; ramps shut from 20:00.

3 · The western Ringbahn is shut until the end of service. Replacement buses skip Westkreuz: change at Charlottenburg. 👉 Live disruptions here

4 · The U2 and U3 are back. The U1 runs only from Uhlandstraße to Wittenbergplatz every 15 minutes, with full service to Warschauer Straße expected Monday. 👉 Check the U1 here

5 · Berlin–Hannover trains are diverted via Magdeburg and are about 80 minutes slower. This first closure runs to 12 December

🎶 The Week’s Lead

🚗 Dreieck Funkturm gets a new route from Monday ⭐

From 05:00 on Monday the A115 connector to Halenseestraße Ost is taken out of service for the Ringbahnbrücke rebuild. Traffic from the A115 reroutes across the AVUS rest area to Alte Jafféstraße and Messedamm. For the A100 north, continue via the Spandauer Damm interchange.

Halenseestraße Ost itself stays open; it's the A115 connector that goes, and the direct link is planned to return in summer 2027.

Expect queues at Alte Jafféstraße and Messedamm at busy times.

🚧 And the A100 closes for four nights
Both directions between Hohenzollerndamm and Heckerdamm, 21:00 to 05:00, on the nights of 5/6, 6/7, 7/8, and 8/9 October. Ramps shut at 20:00. Four separate nights, not a week.

🚇 Today: the western Ringbahn is shut
No S41, S42, or S46 between Beusselstraße and Halensee until about the end of service. Replacement buses skip Westkreuz and transfer at the S-Bahnhof Charlottenburg, Kaiser-Friedrich-Straße stop. The S2 north of Karow and the S3 east of Ostkreuz are also down, back at the same time.
👉 Live disruptions here

🌙 And late-night buses on the U5 and U8
Tonight through Thursday, 22:00 to about the end of service: the U5 between Wuhletal and Hellersdorf and the U8 between Paracelsus-Bad and Gesundbrunnen. Running to 22 October, weekend nights are normal.

🌤️ Weather

Three warm days, then autumn lands all at once. Wednesday reaches 23°C; by Thursday morning it's 14°C with showers, and it stays there.

The Festival of Lights opens on Friday at 15°C in the rain, and Saturday is wetter still. If you're walking the projections, this is a coat-and-hood week rather than a jacket one.

· Today · 20°C / 8°C · dry
· Mon 5 · 21°C / 8°C · dry
· Tue 6 · 22°C / 8°C · dry

📰 City News

🗳️ The three parties met, and the blockers remain

Die Linke, the Greens, and the SPD held their first three-party meeting on Thursday. Five hours, described by all sides as constructive, but no agreement on the conditions for formal exploratory talks, and more preliminary meetings expected.

The sticking points are antisemitism, racism, and organised crime, which the Greens and SPD have made prerequisites for. The Greens' Katharina Dröge said beforehand that those conditions weren't met; the SPD's Martin Hikel wants a membership vote before any negotiations begin.

Berlin still has its outgoing Senate in office. The new House must convene by 1 November.

🛏️ The cold-weather shelter season has reopened

Kältehilfe began on 1 October with 669 places, rising to 930 secured from November. Use the live guide or hotline rather than a printed address; occupancy is checked daily.

🏠 Free rent advice, but use the phone

The Rent Review Office gives free initial advice on suspected excessive rent: 030 213 007 302. The online form still accepts reports, but the authority can't currently process them, so the phone is faster.

A rent more than 20% above the local comparative rent can be reported, though the district still has to assess whether the legal test is met. Neukölln runs free clinics for its own tenants, with English only at certain sessions.

🚆 And Wolfsburg has lost its long-distance stops

One consequence of the Hannover works: Wolfsburg isn't scheduled for long-distance trains through at least December, Stendal loses its ICE stop with replacement buses, and Magdeburg gains three extra ICE services. Regionally, Spandau to Stendal is shut to 12 December.

🎪 And one small story that's really a big one

Zirkus Mond is leaving its Greifswalder Straße site after eight years. Reuters reported on Thursday that the developer who let the circus use the land wants it back; the troupe has found somewhere else. It was the example in a wider piece on Berlin's shrinking stock of cheap cultural space.
👉 Where they go next

📄 You can now get a Führungszeugnis without queueing
Since 1 October, the official certificate of good conduct can be requested online and arrives as a PDF in your BundID account. Anyone who's done it the old way will know what that's worth.

🍽️ Restaurant Pick

🐟 Rogacki is back — as a pop-up at Markthalle Neun

The ninety-year-old Charlottenburg delicatessen closed earlier this year. On Thursday it reopened as a pop-up inside Markthalle Neun, with the new operation planning a longer-term return to its own side of the city.

What it was, and is again: a fish counter you eat standing at, with smoked eel, herring and potato salad on a paper plate, and no attempt whatsoever to be fashionable about it.

🛍️ Shopping Pick

🎨 Frida – Bobby – Galerie — Neukölln

A gallery that opened on Schillerpromenade on Friday, in the old SP2 tattoo space, and part shop as well: contemporary art and workshops, music and drinks in the evenings, and prints, posters and postcards at prices a person might actually pay.

It's the kind of small opening that tells you more about where a district is going than any retail launch does.

Thursday to Saturday 14:00–19:00, Sunday to 18:00.
